If you ask 10 people around you, at least 7 of them would have heard of Roald Dahl – either through his books or a movie based on one of his books. That he is a great entertainer goes without saying, going by the wild popularity he enjoys. But his stories are also a great bundle of lessons and learnings, that are relevant to all of us, irrespective of age and times we are living in. And oh, the words – as mouthful and delicious as the chocolates in his famous book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
So, here are a few of our favorite takeaways that are not of the chocolate-y kind:
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
Because, life won’t be worth living, otherwise! Erupting in a laughter, or melting in fits of giggles is what makes an otherwise dull and boring day memorable. And what’s the point of being a Mr Know-all, if you don’t know how to be silly!
2. Anything you want to, do it
If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it – want to change the world…there’s nothing to it. In other words, nothing is impossible!
3. So much time and so little to see. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it.
And you know what, both are okay. There are days when you feel you haven’t done anything, and there are days when you are racing against time to do all that you want to do. Go with the flow – take a step back when you have to, go full throttle when you want to!
4. Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation and 2% butterscotch ripple
Yes, it’s more than 100%. And having fun, in the form of butterscotch ripple is very, very important!
5. So shines a good deed in a weary world
Always, always do the right thing – whether or not someone is watching.
These lessons enrich our lives, just as Mr. Wonka’s candies made the world a better place. Go on and enjoy the book and chocolates!
