Here are 8 New Year Resolutions For Our Family! What About Yours?

Another year has flown by, and here we are, looking back at what we did or did not do in the past year! While putting my 7-year-old to bed, I thought this would be a good time to get him to understand reflecting and planning for the year ahead. So, I started telling him about the new year resolutions and how they are promises to ourselves that we must keep. Before we knew it, we had a list of new year resolutions that we have decided to stick to this year. And because they do not involve dieting or exercising, I am quite hopeful that we will follow them 😉

Read, and then read some more

Family New Year Resolutions

Honestly, this doesn’t need to be a resolution, as all of us have to read every single day! But then, it is is so easy to follow, that we simply counted it in. Read alouds, dramatised readings, fiction, non-fiction, poetry – there’s going to be time for everything!

Plan a DIY project

Family New Year Resolutions

From small wealth-from-waste projects to building a birdhouse, there have been quite a few items on our list that we never got around to doing. This year, we’ll do all the small projects, and plan a bigger one too – just for fun!

Shut that screen

Family New Year Resolutions

Fortunately, the kid isn’t into tablets or phones, but loves his TV for the sports and cartoons, and us parents are glued to our phone and laptop screens. It is a conscious decision in the household to limit the usage of the screens this year.

Never bored of the Board

Family New Year Resolutions

Be it Kaadoo games or the old favorites Ludo and Snakes and Ladders or Traditional Indian Games, board games are loved by all at home! We are going to continue playing because after all, all work and no play makes V a dull boy!

Back to the Roots

We all move cities for various reasons, and in our family, none of us are staying anywhere close to where we were born or brought up. So, it is very important to take our child and introduce him to the places where we grew up. He should know all the fun we had when we were his age! To more family trips back home this year!!

Eat Healthy, Drink Healthy, Stay Healthy

Family New Year Resolutions

Health first, so we have decided unanimously that we will cut down on the junk. The processed/ packaged foods, the extra sugar, the refined flour etc will go and we will try to replace them with the healthier options. Guess this is more difficult for us parents!

Head Out More

Family New Year Resolutions

By default or by design, we end up staying indoors for a large part of our days. We are looking forward to making up for the lost time by visiting all the parks and spending more time outdoors. (The camping and farm trips are a big attraction, you see!)

‘No’ is Not So Bad, and ‘Yes’ is Good too

Family New Year Resolutions

Every argument, every request, every instruction is not going to be stonewalled by a ‘NO!’, and not every demand is going to be met either. Moderation is going to be the key this year in our family!
